FamilyTreePiles, Portland Art Museum, 2018
FamilyTreePiles is a site-specific sculpture installed directly into its exhibition space – on an existing wall, corner, ceiling or floor. The piece will take on different shapes and forms each time it is reinstalled as determined by the site and the artist. The piece takes on the notion of questioning the aspirational tree form as a metaphor for family, preferring the pile as a more accurate visual representation.. Its’ shape becomes an ephemeral manifestation of a seemingly unattainable aspiration.
